What is worship?
It is unfortunate that beliefs about worship can sometimes separate Christians. Musical forms, liturgy, congregational response and other elements sometimes become items for disagreement and even disharmony. We recognize that our own unique local history has wrestled with this and will continue to be a challenge.
We want to be intentional about worship. We also believe it should be accessible so that each person can express worship to God in ways that resonate with the worshiper. Worship is a God-focused, Christ-honoring response to God in his character and his actions. God took on flesh to relate to us by destroying the record of sin that separated us (Luke 7:42-43; Colossians 2:14). As we grasp God's Word we find God is accessible to us in Christ Jesus. As a result, we believe our worship should reflect the ready access to the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16). Our worship is one of reverent familiarity - the use of relevant music along with the broad heritage of songs from the past are offered up in the confident assurance that Christ attends our worship as our high priest and as our friend. So what one experiences at Northwest Fellowship is warm, inviting, communal, and yet transcendant.
